Shin splints
Mechanism of the injury:
Shin splints, also known as tibial stress syndrome, occur during physical activity when too much force is being put on the shinbone and the connective tissues around the bone. A runner suffering from shin splints will feel pain behind or along the shinbone. Initially, the pain will stop once you stop running, but eventually it will be continuous. Shin splints are often caused by over pronation

- tenderness, soreness, or pain around medial aspect of the shin
- swollen shin area
Diagnosis:
- physical exam
- x-ray
Treatment:
- P.R.I.C.E (protect, rest, ice, compression, elevation) (make sure you only ice for 15-20 minutes)
- anti-inflammatory medication
- wear proper shoes
- consider arch supports that can help cushion and disperse stress on your shinbone
- supportive taping
