Plantar fasciitis is the inflation of the thick connective tissue, plantar fascia, that extends from the calcaneus to the heads of the metatarsals. Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heal pain and is caused by small tears in the fascia. These small tears occur when too much tension is put on the plantar fasciitis, which supports the arch of the foot.
